Content Creators: 5 Must-Haves In An Electronic Press Kit

An electronic press kit (EPK) is a valuable tool used by content creators to market and promote themselves online. This is an essential piece of a content creator’s social media marketing toolkit that can be used for connecting with others. The goal of any EPK is to pique the interest and make it easy for business professionals, promoters, and other media professionals to contact you. The following items are 5 must-haves in an EPK:

Bio

The content creator’s bio should be at the forefront of the EPK. It should be written professionally and essentially be a sales pitch. The bio should include information related to the content creator’s background, location, current activities, most recently content releases, future plans, and/or any other relevant information to promote the creator. The bio should be clear, concise, and to the point. Eliminate unnecessary details and provide only what’s important in the biography.

A content creator should include their best project work in their EPK. Content creators should be putting their best foot forward no matter their creative niche. Music, artwork, writing, and videography are just a few of the mediums that might be used by content creators. Ideally, the creator of content would want to showcase at least 1-3 of their best pieces of work. The content should be professional and demonstrate the best of what the content creator has to offer.

Videos

Include relevant video content in the electronic press kit where applicable. Showcasing the content creator’s video footage is a great way to help tell a story. For example, include videos for singles from a recent album or mixtape release if you are a musician. One to three videos should be sufficient.

Pictures

Photographs of the content creator, the creative process, photos with celebrities, logos, promotional images, and anything to help brand the content creator are all fair game here. Include captions describing the details about the who, what, when, and where of the photo. Your photos should be high-resolution to make the best impression on the audience.

News and Press Releases

It is a good idea to list any current news or press releases in this section of the EPK. It is also a good idea to note any media coverage in magazines, newspapers, or online for this section. Reviews of a musician’s albums or important interviews could be included in the news section as well.

Contact Information

The most important section of an electronic press kit is the contact information. A content creator should list all relevant contact information including websites, phone numbers, social media links, email addresses, a company address (if relevant), manager(s), publicists, booking agents, and any relevant designated contact persons.
