5 Start Up Tips That Lit A Fire Under My @$$

Business Advertisment

I was planning the launch of a new website/business and decided that before the launch I would seek out some business consultation services. Prior to launching the business, I’d scoffed at the idea of hiring someone to tell me how to run things, but let me tell you; it was one of my best investments!

I’m going to reveal some of the highlights from that consultation session that have shaped the entrepreneur I am today. Here are a few of the key points that I was able to take away. In no particular order:

1. Do Not Rush Your Brand

One of the major mistakes you can make as a young entrepreneur (or even a veteran) is to rush the brand-building process. Building a name for yourself or your company is NOT an overnight affair. Rome was not built in a day. Bill Gates didn’t become a billionaire in a week and you can be certain that establishing yourself as a household name won’t happen at light speed. Take your time. Plan to work and work your plan.

2. Always Be Soft Selling

This business tip hit pretty close to home for me. At the time, I was not what one would consider a great salesman let alone an expert entrepreneur. During our consultation, my business coach placed great emphasis on always promoting your business/brand. “Always be soft selling,” he said.

The more I thought about that simple statement, the clearer things became to me. My takeaway was that you should always be your biggest supporter. Belief in yourself is everything! If you believe in something, why not speak up about it? Why not tell others about something great, especially if you are the man/woman behind it?

Be your own biggest cheerleader!

3. Find A Mentor and a Wingman

This tip is pretty straight forward but the biggest teachable moment comes from understanding why. Why should you find a mentor? Why should you find a wingman/woman?

The real value of a mentor lies in their experience. Listening to someone who’s been there and done that can save you from unnecessary pitfalls. Additionally, these folks often have a whole different network of contacts and connections that you don’t. These connections are priceless and can help enhance your career in ways you couldn’t yourself.

Your wingman or wing-woman serves a different purpose. This person is someone who is “on your level”, almost like a rival of sorts. Use this person to help keep you accountable and motivated while pursuing your goals.

Let’s face it. We all will have highs and lows in our careers. Having someone there to keep you encouraged during the rough times as well as celebrate your accomplishments is always a plus!

4. Hire A CPA (when the time is right)

Unless you enjoy crunching numbers and paying Uncle Sam his due share, find a good certified public accountant that you can trust to handle the dirty work. You’ll save yourself a ton of money and pointless frustration in the long run!

5. Position Yourself As The Best

No matter what line of work you are in, always position yourself as the best at what you do. If you create music, be the best musician! If you’re in construction, build the best houses! Establishing your brand as numero uno in the mind of your audience has long-lasting consequences that can positively affect your pocketbook and lifestyle.

Don’t just be good, be great!
